Nicolas Duboc's Homepage
There is little information on this page, though you can find here :
- information about my life (if really you're interested in it);
- a resume (PDF format) [French version];
- my various realizations in computer science domain;
- some links to pages which I find interesting;
- technical information about this page.

Who's Nicolas Duboc ?
Nicolas Duboc was born in Rouen (Normandie - France) the 19th of May 1979. He lived in this region with his parents and his sister until 1989. Nicolas touched a keyboard for the first time in 1988. It was the keyboard of the computer his father had made himself. The same year, Nicolas discovered another still active passion : archery.
In 1989, Nicolas and his family arrived in Troyes (Champagne - France). He classically went to the secondary school. Then, in 1996, the Duboc family moved to the French Riviera (in Nice) where Nicolas passed his "baccalauréat" (equivalent to a A level) and entered the university for computer science studies. He has obtained a DEUG (a two year degree in mathematic and computer science) and entered at ESSI (an engineer school in computer science of Sophia Antipolis).
Now, Nicolas lives with his girlfriend Dominique and his little daughter Amélie at Vallauris and works for the ILOG company at Sophia Antipolis.
In May 2003, Nicolas has started a new hobby he had discovered in 1996 : soaring. He practices soaring at the Fayence soaring club, an eden for soaring, near the French Alps.
Realizations and current projects
In more than 13 years in front of a screen, I had the opportunity to explore various domains such as operating systems, programming and languages or web and Internet technologies.
My discovery of Linux in 1998 was a great experience and has made me understand lots of things about computer systems.
About my realizations :
- I wrote lots of scripts (in shell or more often in Python) for administration of my two home boxes.
- I, more and more often, help development projects of free software that I use. I signaled and corrected a few bugs in (for example) TWiki, Cogitant or WebCalendar.
- In the context of my internships in the research project
M@inline, I developed :
- Fixidea: a framework for mathematic formula edition based on Web standards : MathML and SVG. This prototype has been extended and is now developed by Stéphane Lavirotte from the M@inline project.
- jnicogitant (not yet available on the net) : an interface library between the Java world and Cogitant (a C++ library developed to manipulate conceptual graphs).
I also participed in the translation effort of Linux documentation by working on two HOWTOs. These HOWTOs explain how to perform some administration tasks to Linux newbies.
I'm also a Debian developer. It means that I participate in the Debian project which aims at developing a free, universal operating system based on GNU/Linux. So I'm maintaining Debian packages. See my Debian page for more informations about my work.
I presented (in French) the Python programming language during the Free Software Mediterranean Day 2006.
Links
The indispensable search engine on the web : Google (http://www.google.com/)
Computer science :
- Debian GNU/Linux : one of the best Linux distribution (I have been using it for 2 years after I had used Redhat and Mandrake);
- Python : a programming language which is really easy to learn and to use (for beginners and also for expert hackers).
- W3C : the consortium in charge of the definition of communication standards and document formats for the Web. All these specifications are on-line and should be used by all web developers.
Archery :
- FFTA: the French archery federation (for official information)
- Place du sport: a news site and a forum started by a former archery French team (really useful for officious news)
- Sagitarius Archery Black Board: an English spoken forum with much technical information. Few well-known persons are talking on this forum.
Soaring :
- AAPCA: Fayence soaring club
- What is soaring ? on the web site of the Soaring Society of America.
About this page
This page conforms to XHTML and CSS specifications.
These specifications are written by leading industrial actors of Internet and aim at specifying what Internet should be.
By respecting this norms when you develop a web site, everyone will be able to see your pages in good conditions, whatever the operating system (Linux, Windows, MacOS, ...) or the web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Lynx, ...) they use or even whatever disability they are affected with (blind people for example).
The HTML code of this page was written with GNU Emacs which is a free (as in free speech not free beer) text editor optimized for programming.
The style of this page is mainly inspired by the style the W3C uses for its specifications. I found this style simple and clear, so I decided to use it ;-)
